The Wason Selection Task is a famous puzzle in logic and reasoning. It challenges you to evaluate a simple rule and decide which pieces of information you need to check to determine whether the rule is being followed.
At first glance, it might seem easy—but most people answer it incorrectly. Psychologists have used it for decades to explore how we think, how we apply logic, and how our reasoning can change in different situations.
You’ll be shown three scenarios — two are somewhat abstract, and one will feel more familiar. For each one, your task is the same: Choose only the card or cards that must be turned over (or checked) to thoroughly test whether the rule is being broken.
There are no trick questions—just a chance to see how your mind handles logic under different conditions.
Note that all answers, while recorded, are anonymous.
Your occupation is requested only for analytical purposes (e.g., do some jobs/roles typically perform better or worse on this test).
Note: You only get one shot at this! Taking the Wason Selection Task more than once could skew the results — so make it count. Seriously! Don't invent rules that aren't there, and don't make assumptions.Ready? Let's go...
