About a week ago, Mark Thompson posted something in his Skool community, Systematic Writer Inner Circle, about the importance of tags on Substack.
He also revealed a way to find out what tags other writers are using, which is not something that Substack shows on a post.
As soon as I saw how he was finding those tags, by looking in the HTML source code, I knew that I could create a simple tool that would make that process much easier.
Because, let’s face it, few people enjoy digging through unreadable code looking for specific details. I’ve been writing computer programs (on and off) since 1979, and it’s far from being my favourite activity. 🙂
Anyway, the upshot of it is that I have recently launched the Substack Metadata Viewer.
Currently, it’s simple: you paste in the URL of a Substack post and it shows you what tags the author uses:
If you’re interested, you can get it here (and it’s free).
