The Importance Of Checking PLR Materials

If you’ve ever bought any Private Label Rights (PLR) material (e.g. articles, ebooks), then you’ll probably already know that the quality is variable, at best.

Some of it looks like it was written by the proverbial infinite number of monkeys, much of it is OK, and a handful is high quality (e.g. PLR.me).

So, if you ever decide to purchase PLR content for your site or email list, then it is always recommended that you rewrite it in your own words.

There are two main reasons for this:

  1. You never know who else is using that exact same content, and you don’t want your version to be identical.
  2. Even if the PLR article is unique to you, there’s a good chance it won’t have been written in your voice (e.g. tone, style, word choice), and that could make it jar compared to other content on your site that you did write yourself (or that came from a different PLR source).

But even if you choose not to rewrite the material, it is vital that you at least read it, and make sure the information is accurate.

For example, a while ago I bought some PLR material on the subject of diet, and in one of the articles I was working on earlier today, I came across the following sentence:

Even one drink will increase your cholesterol so keep to minimum of one per day for woman and two per day for men.

When I read this, I didn’t think it sounded right (other than the bad English), so I did a quick search and confirmed my suspicions – the word “minimum” should have been “maximum”.

That one change alters the meaning of the sentence considerably – and the way it was originally written is actually potentially dangerous.

So, if you are going to use PLR content on your site, do make sure the information is accurate, because the last thing you need is to be sued for publishing articles that could harm or kill somebody.
